Kerr Tar Focus 20/20 Summit

The Kerr Tar Regional Council of Governments hosted a Regional Economic Summitt on February 20th at McGregor Hall in Henderson, NC. The Summitt, Focus 2020, provided participants with information on business and entrepreneurship. Check out pictures of the event.

VGCC and Warren County Schools Plan Special Recognition Ceremony

Vance Granville Community College and Warren County Schools met this week to plan a special recognition ceremony to honor the students in the Medical Science Academy at Warren County High School. These students earned their Pharmacy Tech certificate or completed the Nurse Assistant program. 

Vance Granville Community College Partners with Warren County Schools

Vance Granville Community College and Warren County Schools are working together to develop an Agri-Science program for Warren County High School. The program would utilize existing equipment at WCHS. Dawn Michelle Tucker and Lyndon Hall from Vance Granville Community College met with the CTE Leadership Team to discuss options for the course. They looked at the existing facilities to discuss how they could be utilized.

Apprenticeship Program Presentation

Ernie Conner, Director of Technology and CTE and the Principals at Warren County High School, Warren New Tech High School and Warren Early College High School traveled to Halifax County to participate in a presentation about the Apprentice School in Newport News, Virginia. This institution is interested in partnering with all school districts in the Roanoke River Valley Education Consortium to provide apprentice opportunities for students in the area.

CTE Leadership Presents to District Curriculum Team

Ernie Conner, Derrick Fogg, and Odessa Perry presented the process and procedure that the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has provided to prepare for the implementation of the new Carl D. Perkins federal legislation. A comprehensive local needs assessment must be completed that will receive input from stakeholders in the district and region. Surveys will be made available in the next few weeks for the stakeholders to provide input.

Hydroponics Project in Action

Elevelon Mason worked collaboratively with Stephanie Ayers Business classes to produce lettuce and other plants hydroponically. They grew them without soil and completely controlled the nutrients that were given to the plants. The students developed a business plan to operate a small hydroponics production business.
