WCHS Auto Student Attends Hendrick Motorsports Engine Builders Event

Gavin Ellis from Warren County High School and Ernie Conner, Director of Technology and CTE attended the 15th Annual Hendrick Motorsports Engine Builders Showdown. Engine Builders from Hendrick Motorsports and mechanics from Hendrick dealerships from all across the country compete for the championship. In addition to watching these professionals build an engine and run it for 60 seconds in around 24 minutes, tours were given of the entire Hendrick Motorsports complex. Rick Hendrick was also on hand and spoke to the visitors during a break. This was an awesome event to see!

Ray Evernham, Former Nascar National Championship Crew Chief assisted with the competition. Gavin had an opportunity to meet and talk with him during one of the breaks.

This team built the engine and ran it for 60 seconds with a total time of 24 minutes and 2 seconds. This time also included a 30 second penalty for a loose bolt! WOW!

Gavin had a chance to talk with Rick Hendrick during the event. Rick was born in Warrenton and grew up in nearby South Hill, Virginia.

A tour was given to everyone of the engine shop, fabrication shop and the Nascar shops for Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliott, Kasey Kaine, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. They also toured to Hendrick Motorsports Museum and the Hendrick Heritage Museum.
